Photo Tips for your Breed Profile

Uploading the best photos for your breed profile

Updated over 2 years ago

The breeding world is a competitive space, with lots of different breeds and breed profiles on RightPaw alone - it's important to ensure your breed profile stands out. This is where photography comes in.

Humans are visual creatures, so when setting up breed profile for prospective puppy buyers to look at, it's important to have amazing photographs that show off all of the strengths of your breeding program.

This guide aims to provide you as much information as possible in picking the right photos for your profile.

Tip 1: Upload high resolution photos

Uploading high-resolution photos allows for people viewing your RightPaw profile to see your dogs and puppies clearly. Uploading high-resolution photos adds a mark of quality and professionalism to your profile.

The photo must be:

  • Landscape orientation

  • At least 2400 pixels (wide) by 1800 pixels (high) - the higher number of pixels the better

  • Has a 4:3 aspect ratio - for example if your photo is 3400 pixels wide, you would want the height to be 2550 pixels (high). This is calculated by multiplying the width by 0.75.

Tip 2: Use landscape photos only:

Using portrait photos will result in parts of the photo being cropped out when it appears on RightPaw (see below):

When you click on the photo - the full photo will show up, but it won't display nicely as a hero photo compared to the other two example photos in the profile.

Tip 3: Do not use photos taken as screenshots

From time to time, we see photos uploaded as if they were taken as a screenshot. You're probably asking, what does that look like?

See the image below - you can see in this example a screenshot of the photo has been taken because it has the black bars above and below the photo and the screenshot has captured the notification icons in the top right.

Never upload a photo taken as a screenshot as:

  • The photo is of a lower quality;

  • It makes your profile look unprofessional/amateurish;

  • Your notifications of the apps you use will appear there;

  • You could have screenshot personal/sensitive information.

Always share your photos from your photo gallery or photo app on your phone.

See the links below for more information on how to share photos from your phone:

Tip 4: Upload lots of photos of variety

RightPaw recommends uploading a MINIUMUM 15-20 photos on your breed profile using a mix of different photos randomly assorted, with the top three photos arranged at the top as your hero photos. You should use:

  • Photos of your breeding dogs playing, exploring, relaxing or even looking boss or majestic!

  • Photos of puppies/litters - present or past litters that you've had so you can showcase the lineage and consistent quality of your litters.

  • Candid photos of yourselves, family and/or people that help with your breeding program with your dogs - this shows character and sincerity.

  • Any photos of you winning awards at dog shows - this shows your breeding program wins awards of your dogs particularly in conformation and agility events.

  • Any photos where your dogs go off to be service dogs like police dogs, therapy dogs, etc - shows that law enforcement or therapy organisations purchase and use your puppies for these purposes - adding further reputability.
